Abstract
Assessment and reporting remain largely manual processes in many primary schools in Papua New Guinea (PNG), resulting in time-consuming administrative work, calculation errors, and challenges in managing student records. This study presents the design and development of a Web-Based School Assessment and Reporting Management System aimed at digitizing student assessment, grading, reporting, and academic record management. The system integrates student information management, assessment data entry, automated grade computation, student ranking, School Assessment Summary Sheet (SASS) generation, digital report card production, and academic performance analytics within a single platform. Teachers can enter assessment scores electronically, while the system automatically calculates totals, percentages, grades, and class rankings in real time. The platform also generates professional PDF report cards and provides secure digital storage of student academic records. In addition, the system incorporates interactive dashboards and graphical analytics that allow teachers, students, and school administrators to monitor academic performance and make informed educational decisions. The development followed a design-based approach involving system design, prototyping, testing, and evaluation. The results indicate that the system improves efficiency in assessment processing, enhances the accuracy of grading and reporting, and reduces reliance on paper-based records. The study demonstrates the potential of digital assessment technologies to support effective implementation of Standards-Based Education and strengthen educational management practices in primary schools across PNG.
